Metrobank Foundation recognizes exemplary Scholars at 18th Graduates’ Forum

The Metrobank Foundation Inc. (MBFI) recently conducted the 18th Graduates’ Forum for the 30 graduates of its managed scholarship program. The event is conducted annually to recognize the academic and non-academic achievements of the Foundation’s outstanding graduates. This year’s thirty graduates were awarded by Metrobank Foundation president Aniceto Sobrepeña (6th from left, seated), Fluor general manager German Camigla (5th from left, seated), and Pacific Paint (Boysen) Philippines communications manager Ramil Mendoza (7th from left, seated).

The Metrobank Foundation, Inc. (MBFI) recognized 30 scholars who graduated this year during the 18th Graduates’ Forum, held last June 25 at the Metrobank Plaza in Makati City. This year’s graduates are recipients of the MBFI-Youth for Excellence and Service (YES), MBFI-Boysen, and Fluor-MBFI scholarship programs. Six graduated with Latin honors and were conferred with Metrobank Medals and Certificates of Academic Excellence.

The MBFI-YES scholarship program reinforces the capacity of Manila Tytana Colleges in producing high-performing potential leaders. Leading this year’s batch are Mary Ann Arcenal (BS Business Administration, Magna Cum Laude), Ann Margarette Joy Marquez (BS Information Technology, Magna Cum Laude), and Jayson Realubit (BS Accountancy, Cum Laude).

Pacific Paint (Boysen) Philippines has supported selected Architecture students from the University of the Philippines (UP)-Diliman and the University of Santo Tomas (UST) since 2005. One of their scholars, Christian Andro Madrogaba, graduated cum laude from UP Diliman this year.

Since 2001, Fluor Inc. has partnered with MBFI to help underprivileged yet deserving students obtain engineering degrees. This year, two of their scholars finished with Latin honors – Tricia May Cacho (BS Electronics and Communications Engineering, Cum Laude) from UST and Jonathan Suelo (BS Civil Engineering, Cum Laude) from Central Philippine University.

Speaking on behalf of the graduates, Arcenal expressed gratitude for the help they received, saying that, “Each of us is a product of the generous hearts of Metrobank Foundation and its partners.” Arcenal expressed her belief that, “It is only through helping others that we can thank our benefactors.”

“Metrobank Foundation believes in the potential of the Filipino youth to make a difference. Together with our partner institutions, we have provided students with access to quality education and opportunities for holistic development,” said MBFI president Aniceto Sobrepeña. He added, “The mark of success goes beyond earning a college degree. I hope you always remember that your achievements are accompanied by a greater responsibility to our country.”

“As part of Fluor’s commitment to the communities where we live and work, Fluor is proud to invest in programs that encourage students to pursue science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) careers,” said German Camigla, Fluor’s executive sponsor for community affairs in the Philippines. Ramil Mendoza, communications manager of Pacific Paint (Boysen) Philippines, challenged the graduates to pay it forward and said, “Share just as you have been privileged to accept the generosity of others.”

A series of activities followed the awarding ceremony. During “Conversations”, the scholars shared stories of their life’s journey and of the people who helped them along the way. They also outlined their future plans on vision boards to guide their next steps in life. Jaime Arcangel of the Metrobank Human Resources Management Group also facilitated a session on career direction to prepare the scholars for finding the right job. It was followed by “Crossroad Reflections,” an activity which encouraged the new graduates to use their talents and skills for God and country. An open forum on their insights and experiences in social responsibility was then facilitated by Sobrepeña.

Every year, the Foundation stages the Graduates’ Forum to recognize the academic and non- academic undertakings of its promising graduates from different scholarship programs. The day-long event also serves as an opportunity for scholars to thank their benefactors and interact with their fellow scholars.

Since 1995, the MetroGold Scholarship Program has been awarding financial grants to support deserving students through college. To date, the program has produced over 865 graduates in collaboration with its partner institutions and schools.
